The village has recently seen a considerable amount of development, most of it tastefully done, and as a result there is now a florishing tourism trade, albeit still on a small and relatively quiet scale.

Fishing boats continue to run in and out of the bay, the views from the rocky headlands are spectacular, and proximity to Aguilas ( in Murcia ) and the good roads connecting San Juan to Vera PLaya and other towns on the costa de Almeria make San Juan a new favourite for holiday makers and home buyers alike.
